GUIDE FOR LEGAL TRANSLATION PROCEDURE

IN THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

 

Legal translation in United Arab Emirates is also known as "Sworn Translation" referring to the translation which is printed in the letterhead of a certified translator with stamp and signature accredited by the Ministry of Justice of the United Arab Emirates.

The following are the guides for legal translation procedure based on their requirements and sources.

 

NORMAL TRANSLATION

(Any Source)

Normal translation is an exception for all the procedure to be mentioned in this guide as this translation requires only for understanding or documentation purposes. This translation is not to be printed in the letterhead of a certain certified translator and is presented without stamp and signature. Also, the same can not be attested by the Ministry of Justice and Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

 

LEGAL TRANSLATION

Document issued from the United Arab Emirates

Step 1: Before translation, any official document required to be translated should be signed and stamped by the issuer, i.e. Individuals, Companies, Jebel Ali Free Zone Authority (JAFZA), Ministry of Health, Chambers of Commerce, Auditors, Attorneys, etc…

Step 2: After translation, the translated document can be submitted to any departments, ministries or any other governmental or non-governmental entity here in United Arab Emirates.

Optional: If the translated document required for use outside the United Arab Emirates, it is necessary that such document should be attested first in the Ministry of Justice or Notary Public (for Memorandum of Association and other Company Formation Documents). Then the same should be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then to the Consulate or Embassy of the Country where the document will be used.

Document issued outside the United Arab Emirates

Step 1: Before translation, any official document required to be translated should be attested from the Department or Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Country of Origin and then by the United Arab Emirates Consulate or Embassy in that Country and then the same must be attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the United Arab Emirates.

Step 2: After translation, the translated document has to be attested by UAE’s Ministry of Justice or the Notary public (for Memorandum of Association and other Company Formation Documents), then the same can be submitted to any department, ministry or any other governmental or non-governmental entities here in United Arab Emirates.

Document issued by Consulates/Embassies in the United Arab Emirates

Step 1: Before translation, an official document required for translation should be attested from the issuing Consulate or Embassy, and then to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in the United Arab Emirates. After these two steps your document is ready to be translated and duly stamped by the certified translator’s stamp.

Step 2: After translation, the translated official document can be submitted to any department, ministry or any other governmental or non-governmental entities here in United Arab Emirates.

Optional: If the translated official document required for use outside the United Arab Emirates, it is required to be attested first in the Ministry of Justice or Notary Public, followed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and then to the Consulate or Embassy of the Country where the document will be used.
